Meeting with Gayle Palmer to discuss grant opportunities to support our PDHC

Meeting with Gayle Palmer May 13, 2010, Pasadena City College
Meeting objectives:
1. Review grant funding ideas
2. Identify fiscal agent/discuss responsibilities and impact of being the agent
3. Review scope and activities of the grant

NEH
•Usually 2 years, begins July 2011
•Recommends a full time manager; 25% Administrative, manager of consortia
•Project coordinator 100%
•Add in my time, Martha’s time, Laura’s time…any other people…
•Advisory committee: get started on it. NEH will want to see it
•Start thinking about what in our collections is significant nationally; eg. what would be of benefit to institutions like the Huntington
•Think about Library Techs as Digital Media Technicians…aka Data Management technicians

•Two levels of partners…
1st level will participate in inventory; will pledge to submit x number of records to the collection; pledge to allow Worldcat uploads; participate in model workflow for mobile devices and the cost sharing study
•Find out now: what is the baseline and how will we measure success
•Find out now (from PCC student technology survey (or PPL data): what % of PCC and PPL population would benefit from mobile device delivery
•Think about access issues
•Think about leadership issues: who will take the lead (usually funding agent)
•If OCLC administered the grant, they have a 15% indirect cost plus the cost of the training courses

LSTA next March – could be a Fallback if we do not get NEH

Laura Bush Libraries for the 21st century grant due in November
•Start reviewing ALA=APA core competencies; Western States LT program; look for digital data management curriculum that currently exists. If none, great! If some, adapt!
